Restaurants with Michelin Stars

I introduced casual and easy restaurants. Cheap price, delicious food, and large platter are good for our stomachs, but a lot of restaurants of world star chefs are in New York. If you visit the city, you should go to restaurants which have Michelin stars. How can we find the restaurants? We use Michelin guide book which is a series of annual guide books published by Michelin. The guide awards one to three stars to a small number of restaurants of outstanding quality. One star indicates a "very good cuisine in its category", a two-star ranking represents "excellent cuisine, worth a detour," and three stars are awarded to restaurants offering "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey". A three-star Michelin ranking is rare. New York City has 7 restaurants of three stars, 9 restaurants of two stars, and 46 restaurants of one stars. Today, I will introduce three restaurants. 

First is one star restaurant

“Peter Luger Steak House”

Peter Luger Steak House is a steakhouse located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York City. The menu at Peter Luger is sparse, with the focal point being a porterhouse steak sized for one to four. Steaks are served pre-sliced on an inclined plate so that the fat runs down the plate. Further, the edges of the plates are heated to approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing diners to cook their steak further if they so choose.

Second is two stars restaurant “Marea”

The restaurant is an Italian restaurant in New York City, opened in May of 2009 by Chef Michael White. It won the James Beard Award for best new restaurant in 2010 and Marea received two stars in the Michelin guide. Marea is famous for seafood.

Third is three stars restaurant

“Jean Georges”

 Jean Georges is a French restaurant at 1 Central Park West on the Lobby Level of the Trump International Hotel and Tower, Manhattan, named after its owner Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Jean Georges remains one of the few restaurants in the city awarded four stars by The New York Times. The current executive chef is Mark LaPico. The restaurant is divided into two main dining areas – the 70-seat Jean Georges dining room and the Nougatine Café bar-lounge, a slightly more casual dining room. In good weather there is also seating on the Mistral Terrace.

Restaurants with easy and casual

Are you hungry? We talked street food, but we couldn't expect quality and just stay our stomachs by the food. Therefore Koreans usually don't like to eat food on the street. We should go to a restaurant. However, New York has so many restaurants from different countries. Then, New York restaurants are renowned for expensive price, but it's not at all. This time we will go to restaurants which food is quit good and cheap. What kind of food you like?

 

 

I like Mexican food. The U. S. A is very closed to Mexico, so many Mexicans are in the country. This means we could find Mexican food anywhere.

Great Burrito is at the upper west side and a small restaurant. They don't have good interior, but you can eat real Mexican food. Then, all menu are under $15.00 and no tipping. If you go to a fancy and good interior Mexican restaurant, you should tip $15.00.

Dallas BBQ is one of famous restaurants to Korean visitors. Why? The restaurant suggests cheap price and big big big sizes. Then the restaurant is franchise, so you can find many districts. If you order food per person, you can't finish and you need a doggy bag. Prices are very variable, but all menu are under $20.00 and I suggest order food less than your party. One more thing, you have to tip 15% to 18% of payment here.

Last thing is popular cuisine. That is Southeast Asian restaurants such as Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian food. A lot of Southeast Asian restaurants are in New York and they are popular. Southeast Asian restaurant's food is also relly good taste and cheap. Menus are usually unde $15.00. Then I can't only one restaurant. Just look around and go get food. They don't disappoint you.

Street food

After getting a place where you stay, you should solve your starving. Where can you get food in the city? McDonal's, K.F.C, or a french restaurant? Don't warry to find food. You can get food on the street. New York has many kinds of street food vendors. Street food is intimately connected with take-out, junk food, snacks, and fast food. You can get food for meal or snack whatever you want. Let's see what kind of vendors are there.

A hot dog is a sausage served in a sliced bun. It is commonly garnished with mustard and ketchup. Onions, mayonnaise, relish and sauerkraut are extra. regular price for one is $1.50 to $2, but if you want extra garnishes, you should pay $0.50 more.

 

A pretzel is a type of baked food made from dough in soft and hard varieties and savory or sweet flavors in a unique knot-like shape. People usually eat a pretzel with mustard. Prices are usually $3 to $4.

    

Ice cream

Ice cream truck sells soft serve ice cream. When the truck is appeared, you can hear a song. I never tried Ice cream truck's ice cream, so I don't know how much it is.

  

  

Halal Food.

In New York City there are numerous halal food carts in business which serve gyros, chicken platters, and other halal fast foods. This food are the common lunch for people. So many people eat this food. Prices are very variable

    

Coffee, bagel, and doughnut

Then, you can easily get a cup of coffee and bagel or doughnut. This vendor sells them in the cheapest prices in the City, but quality is not guarantee.

Don't eat and buy street nuts. I got stomachache after eating the nuts.

Guest house

I talked about hotels at the previous post, but it was expensive even we can reserve rooms by cheap prices. We should know a hotel is not only one accommodations you can choose in New York City. Young tourists like backpackers who have limited budgets know a guest house is a great accommodation for them. a price for a guest house is really cheaper than a hotel room. Of cause, prices are depended on facilities and locations, but almost guest houses suggest reasonable prices. We can check what are advantages and disadvantages of guest houses.

Hotel

When I go to trip, I check accommodation first. If my friend lives near my destination, I don't need any worry, but if not, that could be a problem with a price. New York's borough's have a lot of hotels. According to New York City's official city tourist internet site. There are a total of 258 hotels and a half of hotels are in Manhattan. New York City is not really big size city, but many tourists and business people visit the city, so a large number of hotels are needed. Can you guess which hotel is the biggest? The answer is Hilton New York, which has 1,980 rooms. 8 hotels have more than 1000 rooms. These hotels are New York Marriott Marquis, Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, Hotel Pennsylvania, Grand Hyatt New York, and etc. However, if I want to stay at the Four Seasons Hotel, I should pay more than 1050.00 USD per night. It's a lot of money, but some people can think that is a reasonable price, so how can we find our hotels with reasonable prices? An online website can help us. You can choose locations where you want and prices which you want.

Bus & Taxi

Today, I’m going to talk about NYC’s bus and taxi. MTA New York City Bus is a bus service that operates in all five boroughs of New York City as NYC subway, so if you understand that how to use the bus system, you can travel very easily New York City. I already talked about the unlimited card and 24 hours operation at the previous posting. You can also use the card for MTA NYC bus for 24 hours. When I was in New York, I prefer taking a bus because NYC bus is cleaner than NYC subway. NYC buses have different things with Seoul buses. Seoul buses have ring bells in the buses for stop signal, but NYC buses have black or yellow signal belts and strings. If you want to make a stop, don’t try to find bells. Try to find belts or strings and Push or pull them. And one more different thing is that you need to open a backdoor yourself for getting off a bus. Some buses have automatic backdoors, but that is not common, so don’t wait for automatic backdoors.

Have you seen yellow taxies in American movies? I guess the background of movies is New York City. The yellow taxi which called as yellow cab is one of famous symbols of New York City. I used the yellow cab only one time for a restaurant reservation, so I don’t have many experiences about that. However, if you have many money and want convenient, I highly recommend it. Then, one thing, you have to remember. That is a tip. You have to tip 15% of your fares for a driver. If you do not tip, you will be in trouble.

JFK airport & Subway

New York is one of the most famous cities in the world. Many people want to go there and do something in there. Actually, New York City has five boroughs; Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. I guess that people have heard names of these borough's at least one time.
I'm going to introduce about the city. The first is transportations.

JFK airport is an international airport and located in Queens, New York City. The airport is 24km from Manhattan. Then, it is the biggest airport in the City. If you want to go to New York City, you should visit the airport. Other airports are exist near and in New York City, but Korean planes go directly to only JFK airport. The airport has 8 terminals and the terminals are seperated, so  if  you want to move to other terminals, you should take a air train. The air train move to only one way. It could make you a lttle confused. Korean airline makes a landing at terminal 1 and Aisana airline mekes a linding at terminal 4. I have been to NYC, so I have used the airport. I was not fancy and convient as Ichen airport. However, the airport keeps their history and development together.

NYC subway is one of the oldest subway in the world and I think NYC subway stations are the most dirty stations in the world. When I saw really really big rats in subway stations, I couldn't believe it. It was not possible to happen in Korea. Anyway the system's stations are located throughout the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx for 24 hours and 365days. Some people say "New York is never slept". I understood it. Then stations are seperated. It means gates for uptown and downtown are different. This system is not always happened, but it is usually like that, so you should check that the gate is uptown or downtown. And then my favourite thing from NYC subway is we can use an unlimited card. When I visited NYC, the price of the card was 89 dollars. I could take a subway and bus with no limitation. That was really nice. I hope Korean subway will make the same policy.
